This collection of stories follows Racque from assignment to assignment as a killer. All in A Day’s Work takes Racque to Bishop, California into a dispute between sheep ranchers and cattle ranchers. Racque is a hired gun for the sheep ranchers. He “walks” through the assignment and on to No Room for Two in which Racque introduces us to his girl friend and his philosophy about relationships. Next Racque takes on a land barren in Arizona, known as the Governor. This little story exposes Racque’s vulnerable underbelly; he often takes the side of the underdog. Lastly, the last story, Racque’s Last Gunfight, is just that. A summation of his life and philosophy, he dies alone in a snowstorm.
