This novella is Sheriff bill Whistler’s ‘swan song’. He has been a sheriff a long time, longer than most sheriffs. But he is slowing down, his reflexes are slower, the risks to his personal well being are greater. Whistler chases outlaws like he always did, but sometimes the chases don’t go his way. One day, the outlaws his he is chasing gravely wound him out on the Sagebrush hills of northern Nevada. A beautiful woman who lives in the sagebrush hills rescues him. Whistler realizes his luck as a sheriff is changing. He also realizes, in his own clumsy way, that he is in love with the beautiful woman of the sagebrush. With the help of the woman, Whistler makes it to retirement with another adventure along the way.
