In 1866, Josh Logan, his mother and his father are on a wagon train bound for Wyoming when natives attack the wagon train. In the course of the attack, Josh’s mother buries her son in sand with just a reed as a breathing tube. Josh is the only survivor of the attack. After everything, he buries the dead and makes his way westward again toward Wyoming. Josh Logan is just 13 years old. Josh is looking for Laramie, Wyoming where his mother was to teach school. Josh convinces the school to take him on in his mother’s place, even if just doing odd jobs. That’s where the adventure begins and it’s where Josh Logan begins keeping journals of his life in Laramie.
The Josh Logan Journals consist of seven journals. You’ll note they bear the numbers 1- 7 on the covers. Read in sequence, they draw a nice sketch of the flow of Josh’s life.
BOOK #2:
Cunningham’s Gold – Josh makes friends quickly and easily. In this book he meets an old army scout. They become friends and one day the scout asks Josh to help him retrieve some gold that a soldier named Cunningham buried years ago in a place know as Pine Bluff. Cunningham is now dead, and the gold is there for the taking. The scout is very mysterious about the gold and Josh at first doubts that there is any gold, but he decides to help his friend. The scout is 60 years old. Josh is 14 years old. Despite this age difference they become fast friends and strike out one day for Pine Bluff. Someone follows them, and it turns out to be Cunningham. Cunningham is not dead, and Josh realizes the gold is not “there for the taking.” The adventure begins and Josh and the scout end up with the gold. The scout rewards Josh with one half of the gold which turns out to be a life changer for Josh. Read on to see how Josh life changes in the most positive ways.
